About the Author:
Hi there! Thank you for browsing my web blog, Wildflower Kitchens. My name is Lindsey Lambert, and I would like to share a little about myself.
I currently live with my husband, Craig, in Airway Heights, Washington, which is just outside of Spokane. We both served in the U.S. Air Force as KC-135 crew chiefs (aircraft mechanics, essentially), which is how we met in the spring of 2008. Craig is still serving on active duty, while I have chosen to take a hiatus from the working world to focus on the quieter aspects of life, as well as build and nurture our growing home and family. We have two pets whom we adore- a chocolate Labrador, Jake, and a cat, Bindi. We are expecting our first son, James, at the beginning of May and we are eagerly anticipating his arrival!
I was born Lindsey Vulich in Shreveport, Louisiana and my family and I eventually moved north to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There, I was homeschooled for 6 years of my life and finished my K-12 education at a public high school. After a few years of soul-searching (and realizing that I couldn’t live a stable life and chase my dreams on minimum wage), I then joined the Air Force, where I ultimately got stationed at Fairchild AFB in Washington State and met my future husband. I am now attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide, majoring in Professional Aeronautics.
A few of my personal hobbies include flying, boating, reading, cooking, writing, fishing, photography and knitting/crocheting (although it is safe to say that I am still learning the two latter tasks). I began flying single-engine airplanes when I was 16 years old, and received my private-pilot’s license when I was 19. Aviation is a true love of mine, satiating my heart from a young age, leading my steps and determining my goals from the day I first felt the response of the controls under my fingertips. I am still, gradually, pursuing a career in aviation.
What inspired me to start this blog? Let’s just say that writing, for me, is one of my many passions, and I enjoy using the English language as a communication tool and a medium on which I can weave purposeful and (hopefully) compelling ideas. Cooking, however, is a relatively new concept in my life that was inspired and fueled when I met my husband.
Before I met Craig, I struggled in the kitchen. It sounds cliché` to say, but I remember a time when I could not make a box of macaroni-and-cheese or boil water. I distinctly remember an occasion on which I attempted to make homemade garlic bread, and the result was a toasty black specimen that had a more promising future on an NHL ice rink than on someone’s dinner plate. Along comes Craig, with a love for food and a manly-sized appetite to boot. I quickly realized that fast food was no longer going to make the cut for a satisfying family meal, and that I was going to have to stepup and find my way around the kitchen. I will be the first to say that I am no Iron Chef or French Culinary Institute valedictorian, but I like to think that, with the help of others in my family, I have honed my basic cooking skills to the point of general edibility. I would like to share my discoveries and creations with folks who can appreciate their worth to our family, and benefit from them as we have. In addition to recipes, I wish to post photos and correspond with my readers through an online weblog.
I would love to hear your questions, comments and constructive criticism, and these can be directed to me through the Wildflower Kitchens website via the “Contact Me” web link at the top of the page. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoy our offerings. Happy cooking!
Love,
Lindsey
